Political Goals for the Sixth District

We need a fundamental change in the way that we view our Congressional Representatives. We need to hold them accountable for what they do and what they do not do. We need to think twice about the money that a Congressman "brings back" to our district, because it should have never left our own pockets in the first place. Our federal government was established to protect the citizens of this great country. The government's primary function has been neglected in the name of political expedience and purchasing your vote by giving your money back to your state, county and local governments.

My goals as your representative are simple:

  • A good idea and a good bill are a good idea or bill no matter if they are put forth by the Republicans or the Democrats. If it is good for the United States and in line with the views and wishes of the Sixth District, I will vote for it.
  • A bad idea and a bad bill put forth that is overreaching and outside of the Constitutional duties of the federal government will be voted against, no matter which party puts it forth.
  • I will work to curb the out of control spending by our federal government that is happening right now and has been happening for many years.
  • We need to eliminate earmarks from the appropriations system of the federal government. If these projects cannot stand on their own merits attached to the appropriate spending bills, then they do not need funded by your federal government. It is this type of wasteful legislation that has gotten us in trouble in the past.
  • I will work tirelessly to ensure that our national security concerns are being taken care of properly. Our military, borders and intelligence agencies are paramount to our survival and deserve the highest attention of the federal government.
  • Government sets the table for job creation. I will work to ensure that taxes are low and that overregulation is curbed to ensure that our private sector job growth is once again higher than our government job growth. When the government is outpacing the private sector in job growth we have a problem and too much government.

It would be extremely easy for me to make the promises that every other politician makes when talking about political goals for their respective district. I can tell you that I am going to go to Washington D.C. and bring back truckloads of money and solve every problem for every constituent from the catastrophic to the mundane. I could tell you that I am going to eliminate lobbies and turn Washington on its ear in the first two years I am in office and change everything that is wrong with our government. I could tell you that I am going to go to our Capital and knock some heads around until they start doing what they were sent there to do.

I could say all of this. There is only one problem with saying that. That problem is that I made a promise to myself not to be the usual politician. I promised that I would not lie to the people of my district just to get elected. Early on in making my decision to run for Congress, my campaign manager asked me a question. He asked me, "What kind of leader do you want to be?" We sat and we talked about this for quite awhile and I made him promise me that if I ever became more concerned about my reelection than my district and my duty that he should find a candidate to run against me. He agreed.
