Law Enforcment

Safety and defense are the primary function of any government. If a person does not feel safe in their everyday life, their government is failing them. Christmas of 2009 was yet another example that this country does have real enemies and that they are determined to disrupt our way of life and attempt to destroy our freedoms. Our current Homeland Security Secretary reported to the American people that "the system worked." How can Secretary Napolitano even begin to make this claim? A man equipped with a bomb got past airport security onto a plane and was able to ignite it. It is only through the grace of God and the determination of other passengers that this was an even more devastating tragedy than it was.

We have to be more diligent when it comes to national security and that starts right here at home. Our law enforcement officers and agencies are among the best in the world, but are constantly and consistently being used as a political football for many state and local political officials in order to pass tax initiatives.

Our federal agencies are also among the best in the world and they are being hamstrung by cities and states who are more concerned with political correctness and ideological demographics then enforcing our laws. An "illegal" immigrant does not have a race or specific ethnicity; it spans all races, genders and points of origin. Yet we allow states and localities proclaim themselves "sanctuary" cities. If these cities do not wish to comply with federal laws and cannot be compelled to do so by the state which they are in then they do not need to take part in receiving federal funds.

Our borders need to be properly manned and defended, this is the number one priority for our federal government and it is being neglected. Many crimes can be connected to border security and many agencies are involved in attempting to curb these crimes, yet as of now we still refrain from taking border security seriously and this does not apply simply to the southern border, but to all of this nation’s borders and ports.

I do not want to see us become an isolationist nation. We are leaders on the global stage and should remain so for many generations to come. I do not want to see our legal immigration process eliminated as well, if anything once the borders are secured and we are aware of who is entering and leaving our country, we should be able to expand this program. Coming into this country is a privilege, not a right. We do a disservice to those that are lawfully trying to enter the country by allowing others to enter illegally. It is a long process to legally enter this country and to become a citizen. I applaud those that take the necessary steps to legally enter the country. But those that enter illegally are, in fact criminals, and our law enforcement needs to be free to act appropriately.

By allowing our Law enforcement officials to do their jobs, we will be more secure in our homes in this country. Strong law enforcement that is able to operate without the above mentioned political correctness, and able to carry out their jobs without being held up by local officials, makes sense. A secure border will keep dangers such as terrorists and drug trafficking out of our country as much as possible. The times that we live in call us to be vigilant against danger, and our Law Enforcement Officials are our first line of protection against threats that would harm us here at home.
